Can you name and describe some of the uncommon stitches used in needlepoint?

The most common stitch names that you are likely to hear in needlepoint are the different types of tent stitches and their variations. However, there are a large number of stitches that you can practice and learn. Here are some of them and their descriptions.

The triangle stitch gives a textured filling with the background of straight stitches and a triangle in the front. The pineapple stitch is one that looks like the rings of the pineapple. This is a stitch that can be made in a single color and in two colors too. The Brighton stitch is a very uncommon stitch that is extremely textured. While you can do this in a single color, using two colors brings out the beauty of the stitch. Satin stitch is a stitch that can be worked in a vertically straight manner, a horizontal manner or in a slanting manner too.

The long stitch is a good one to fill in small spaces and to create shapes too. It is another stitch that is likely to have some of the canvas showing if you want to create shapes by using different colors. The Florentine stitch uses vertical stitches of varying lengths and is a relatively light airy filling. The Parisian stitch is similar to the Florentine stitch but only uses a lesser number of length variations. And the double Parisian stitch is one that doubles each of the vertical lengths. The brick stitch is a great one to use for bricks in a pattern and can be created horizontally and vertically too.
